Commitment to Circular Economy
Olextra’s mission is to revolutionize the way we view by-products of olive oil production. By using these by-products as raw materials, Olextra delivers sustainable, high-quality, and high-value bioactive ingredients to the food and feed industries. The company’s vision is to transform an agricultural by-product into valuable, unique products that meet the growing demand in the feed and food ingredient markets.

Transforming Olive Pomace into Value-Added Food and Feed Products
Olextra ApS specializes in the production of natural, plant-based ingredients derived from olive pomace, the often-overlooked by-product of olive oil production. This innovative approach not only addresses a critical environmental challenge, but also provides a range of high-quality, value-added products for various applications.
Olives contain many potent bioactive components such as hydroxytyrosol, maslinic acid, oleocanthal, and squalene.
Using an advanced bioprocessing technique, we have enhanced and standardized the components naturally found in olive fruit.
The most important bio-actives
As we fully utilize the raw material, we offer a truly sustainable and cost-efficient solution and at the same time retain all the +30 bio-actives recorded in the final Olextra products.
Oleocanthal
Oleocanthal, a secoiridoid, a complex type polyphenol like Oleuropein. It mimics the effects of ibuprofen, by reducing inflammation. This has a particular positive effect on long term inflammatory illnesses, including certain cancers and is considered beneficial in the prevention of alzheimers. Oleocanthal (as well as Oleacein) exhibits positive effect on chronic diseases associated with obesity.

Hydroxytyrosol
Is known to be one of the most powerful natural antioxidants. Hydroxytyrosol further displays a wide range of potential health benefits, including cardioprotective, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory effects.

Maslinic acid
Is likewise recognized to have several health benefits such as anti-microbial and anti-viral effect. Furthermore, maslinic acid has been shown to reduce inflammation, improve cardiovascular health, reduce oxidative stress, and improve cognitive function.

Squalene
Squalene from olives is a hydrocarbon compound found in the unsaponifiable fraction of olive oil. For animals, particularly in aquaculture and pet food supplements, squalene can help support the immune system, improving resistance to diseases and infections. Similar, to its effects in humans, squalene can contribute to healthier, more resilient skin and a glossier coat in animals. It helps in maintaining moisture and protecting against environmental damage.

Food Constituent
The food constituent, which is the subject of the health claims, is polyphenols (e.g. hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein complex) in olive (olive fruit, olive mill waste waters or olive oil, Olea europaea L. extract and leaf).
Characterization
The Panel considers that polyphenols in olive standardized by their content of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives (e.g. oleuropein complex) are sufficiently characterized in relation to the claimed effects.
Claimed Effects
Protection of LDL particles from oxidative damage The claimed effects are “reduces oxidative stress”, “antioxidant properties”, “lipid metabolism”, “antioxidant activity, they protect body cells and LDL from oxidative damages”.
Conditions for Claim
The Panel considers that protection of LDL particles from oxidative damage may be a beneficial physiological effect. In order to bear the claim, 5 mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives (e.g. oleuropein complex and tyrosol) should be consumed daily.
